Conrado de Quiros, Shrek and My Book

On VISIONS AND REVISIONS appearing in There’s the rub by the great Conrado de Quiros, I’ve sent a feedback to INQ7 (which I don’t know if INQ7 published). I’ve reprinted it below just the same:
The words of Conrado de Quiros have always been either spot on or prophetic. His lines are exquisite – using such precise descriptive words to an utter ugliness that it just comes out beautiful. I suggest Imelda to use the wordings on the particular column as an epitaph.
The Arroyo comparison also made me thinking. Revision being the key word, the fake president could learn from the movie Shrek. They made such a nice job to portray a lovable ogre. I reckon it would be easier if they do it on a dwarf.
That makes the dream of an enchanted kingdom not really so “Far, Far Away.”
On a different note but equally important, I’ve got a response recently for my MESSIAH666 book (from a publisher) which goes:
Dear Mr. Rasheed,
We regret to inform you that we cannot facilitate to print and publish your book due to conflicts and issues that might arise because of the illustrations and wordings in your book.
We are hoping for your understanding regarding this matter. We are just protecting our company to possible controversy that might happen if we pursue accepting your book.
Thank You.
Sincerely yours,
(The Publisher)
Another stumbling block on the road to greatness…
Or must I remain a voice in the wilderness?
It’s another way of saying that my book coming out is also “Far, Far Away.”

DIVINE INTERVENTION

“Unmoved by the great suffering that stares us all in the face, she once felt immune to the rampant onslaught which more than once was reinforced by her own incompetence. But in the end, Fate proved itself to be the cruellest – not one would be spared, even those that shared its most feared attribute. What a docile monster Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has become. What has happened to my flock?” The reverend typed on his journal before finally deciding to have it deleted. Never mind the separation of the church and state, he felt the entry now to be somehow most inappropriate. Besides, there is a matter more important than anything else to which he should be pre-occupied.
Still, the world-wide-web is home to the most appealing of distractions and a water hole for the necessary diversion. Two mails from the inbox caught his attention.
“Ah, how long has it been?” He said to himself. “The boy is coming back after such a short time. So, the event is drawing near after all.”
He decided not to dwell on it. Things would unfold the way it wanted to, he’ll just cross the bridge when he comes to it. Besides, his life is strange and arduous enough without the worry of such things.

The Prophecy Fulfilled

“What do you proposed we do, Father?” My dame asked.
“Don’t ask me. I’m not the ‘God-wannabe’ here. He is.” Reverend Paul answered pointing to me. “But since you asked, I suggest we have an orgy.”
I couldn’t help thinking whether the god who made Father Paul really intended the “angel-priest” to be this way or whether it’s just free will or evolution gone awry. If my luck holds, I’ll know all the answers soon enough.

"BANGSAMORO"
The dickheads measure GMA: Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharshin!
The current agitation regarding the “bangsamoro” is by no means related to the quest for Utopia. On the contrary, it’s merely GMA’s ploy to test the waters and to sow the seeds of discord. It is a trojan horse designed to divert the people from their current predicament and dangles a madness which is GMA staying in power long after 2010.
Utopia is an ideal state a government should aspire for. But that is never part of the plan nor the grand scheme GMA is hatching in her demented fragile little excuse of a mind.

Perspective
(Arthur Schopenhauer, 1788 - 1860)The task is not so much to see what no one yet has seen, but to think what no body yet has thought about that which everyone sees.
Beyond these facile truisms about the end-of-days, there are unseen forces at work that most of us never contemplate, much less comprehend. In visions and at the crossroads to Mittelpunkt der Wilt, I have met many - some whose names I do not want to remember, though all of their faces are forever sketched in my mind.
They linger – an alternating presence of hot and cold. Like demons trapped, such as they really are (and more), they yearned for release. Somehow, I would grant them that.
Think no ill of me if I sometimes hope they haunt you too. Not a perverted desire or some sick idea on my part, but a lofty wish that you may see as I have seen. And feel as I have felt.
But I am selfish, as all “gods” are - that you must know by now. And in no way would I share Bathsheba with you just so she could enthrall you with her oracle. Her prophecies are mine and mine alone. Nevertheless, there is another way. Use the Sangreal.
If you care to take a glimpse, then gladly I’ll take you there. I welcome you to a world of hurt.
You have been warned.

The Sermon
“Many are called, but only a few are chosen. It’s because priesthood is not just a matter of faith. It is a matter of choice. And while many better men could have donned the cassock, not all of them would have the stomach to perform such utterly complex and immaculate deception. Therefore, there remains but a resolute few to perform the harvest. It’s a cloak and dagger thing, if you know what I mean.”No longer should you tolerate religion or any other institution to keep you in the dark. Faith without reason is perfidy.
Let this be your Genesis!”
The reverend looked at the roaring crowd and felt a great sense of accomplishment upon gazing at the sea of approving faces.
Sangreal
“Please cut to the chase, Father. We’re on borrowed time.” I had to stop the man before he has a chance to talk us into another vicious cycle.“Aren’t we all?” He protested. “Catholics! Always in a rush to get to the truth but having no heart or stomach for it once it caught up with them. Right, Rosabel?”
Nobody is fast enough to respond once the old priest set himself to launch some verbal attacks. He’s on a mission. “I see you’re back to being a statue again. Fortunately, that is also one fetish I would never pass on.”
There is no helping the man. I know it for a fact now that the reverend became a priest to sustain a habit. The sermon being a monologue, he has been given a free rein to indulge on it and has been assured of an audience to receive it.
“How do I use the Holy Grail, father?” I have to interrupt.
“Ah, the Holy Grail! Right…right.” He responded, obviously irked, as he pulled out a book from one of the shelves. “Not quite as easy as using a dildo you reckon.”
He uttered the nth blasphemy with not one god putting a curse on him. Or maybe one already had. I kept mum. Rosabel did too, believing silence is wisdom.
Evolution

Andrew floats for a while, above the ruins of the Holy Spirit Cathedral, before setting down the altar of the razed church. With a backdrop of the setting sun, he is majestic. The reverend couldn’t help but notice how HE now stands at the nexus of time and space. “Is He the one? Is He one? Is He?” were questions he would have wanted to ask. However, he knows it’s useless to voice them out now since an affirmation could only come later. He’s excited but is not really looking forward to the end of days.

Cassanova Strikes Again

I play the role of the master each time the game is on. But as much as I would like a thousand times to fool myself, I’m really not the one in control.
The ruined bed sheet should have signified another triumph. And I’d like to think that in the corner of the bed lie happily one more conquered Eve – lucky enough to feel the abundance and generosity of my spirit. Or so every Don Juan or Don Quixote would have loved to think.
Amidst a tropical storm of unbridled lust, it should be obvious by now that we crossed the Rubicon on a different bridge.

The Neck Tie Man - An excerpt from my book

The power of the Neck Tie Man had not diminished. In fact, the appearance of the second Azrael spelled for the priest twice the trouble. He won’t be able to keep up for long. And just as he feared, the other broke away from their fight and targeted Andrew.
“Your own your own but with my blessing.” The reverend spoke with his usual sarcasm. Deep inside though, he fears for him. But Gods early on must measure up or die. He could only hope Andrew proves fit, not just for his own sake but for Rosabel as well.

Manananggal Advertisement

THE WEAKER dollar would not deter OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) from leaving.
The fact of the matter is simply there’s no job available in the Philippines. And the little that is there could not even offer half the compensation being offered abroad. Just like the Strong Republic GMA [President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo] promised, and the enchanted kingdom she’s been bragging [about], it all amounts to nothing. All myths and lies are. We can’t just simply wait for the manna from heaven. We have to leave the country or starve to death! It’s really a no-brainer.

Elegy for Religion

Did make a life music filled
And all the rhymes that once caress
Your lips did utter and I embraced.
But all good things like life I guess
Like all sweet songs, they do must end.
And wells of hope, and joy before
Now vile contempt it brings to fore.
Sweet nothings that once were,
Now no more than a bitter pill
I swallow for life or death, the sneer
I take like thorn and gaze the spear.
I tremble to hear the constant ringing,
The tintinnabulation and the singing.
I dread the sense of your approach,
The space and silence you encroach
Upon the grave you dug for me
I found peace eventually.
On CBCP to ARROYO: Take Lead vs. Corruption

A few days after, the CBCP issued a statement asking GMA to lead the fight against corruption.
CBCP says “What we’re looking for is people power with a difference.” That was so lame!
Let us look elsewhere then for enlightenment. If I may lead the prayer:
“Aba naman Gloria, puno kana ng Grasya! Ang yaman ng Bansa ay sumaiyo na! Sa husay ni Garci naging pekeng Pangulo ka…
Bukod kang mandaraya sa Babaeng lahat, pinagpala rin ang mangungurakot na ASAWA mo at mga ANAK. Kaya wala ng natira sa….. AMEN!”
On Bishop urges new kind of people power
But how vague should the catholic bishops be? A new breed of “People Power” against the “greed of power-holders” would mean what sort of people power? Archbishop Angel Lagdameo’s “convergence of bearers of truths” would bring about what? How?
The people require something hard, tangible, fresh and final. Mediocrity is the last thing the tricycle, bus and jeepney drivers, the balut vendors and the newspaper boy would need.
Don’t let the blind lead another blind! Be specific says my wise fourth grade teacher. Things tend to get lost in translation if you’re vague.
As for the truth, it has been ignored out there in the open for so long. The only question remaining is what should be done about it.
We cannot be lame in our conviction. If you want GMA out, be plain in saying the current administration had by way of corruption and its culture of impunity sent the Philippines back to the dark ages. We, the Catholic Bishops of the Philippines could not tolerate murder, mayhem and corruption. We ask the faithful to be with us and make God proud by ridding the evil in our own front yard.
Now that is clear, concise and easily understood by laymen and me. The shepherd has to be clear for the flock to follow. Or maybe it’s just me.

ALONE
by Edgar Allan Poe
(1875)
From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were -- I have not seen
As others saw -- I could not bring
My passions from a common spring --
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow -- I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone --
And all I lov'd -- I lov'd alone --
Then -- in my childhood -- in the dawn
Of a most stormy life -- was drawn
From ev'ry depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still --
From the torrent, or the fountain --
From the red cliff of the mountain --
From the sun that 'round me roll'd
In its autumn tint of gold --
From the lightning in the sky
As it pass'd me flying by --
From the thunder, and the storm --
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view --
In the Tikbalang World, something new is taking shape.
Alone, you must await!

Midas Touch

Your guardian angel is asleep while hell is brewing just around the corner!
The lady in the water fed Erosomo with the heart of the Maligno. The once innocent querubim now threads a thin line. Old thoughts are shattered… corrupted.... paving the way for a chaos of infinite reach…
Meggido, the old serpent and ancestor to the malevolent Maligno is stirred. A new blood of power courses through his veins. A god need not be born, but merely resurrected. Erosomo would be the fire to ignite his dark soul and burn the whole world with it….
Unless the catalyst stand on his own and stake his claim to godhood….Everything is possible.

Azrael's time

Tears poured forth like rain. And Azrael knew how it felt to be human again, even for awhile.
In grief, as in any great emotion, seconds pass for eternity. And hell or heaven in a sudden becomes all too real. But awareness comes only to the living. Then, so is pain... and hell and heaven! The dead unknowing is thus spared.
Azrael took it as consolation.
He took the spear from the flailed hand of Aramis. Bloodsoaked, the weapon has never been more gruesome.
The grieving is over. The blood should make up for the tears. And in his mind, Azrael knew it doesn't matter whether it's his. Of course, the slayer's blood is preferred.
His eyes burns not of hate nor of love lost, but longing... In the end, there can only be one!
From afar, the angels are watching...

A Prelude to Destiny

"There manifests itself in the fully developed being, Man, a desire mysterious, inscrutable and irresistible: to imitate nature, to create, to work himself the wonders he perceives. Long ago he recognized that all perceptible matter comes from a primary substance, or tenuity beyond conception, filling all space, the Akasa or luminiferous ether, which is acted upon by the life giving Prana or creative force, calling into existence, in never ending cycles all things and phenomena. The primary substance, thrown into infintesimal whirls of prodigious velocity, becomes gross matter; the force subsiding, the motion ceases and matter disappears, reverting to the primary substance." - Man's Greatest Achievement, 1907
With a clear view from afar, perspective shows a glimpse of the grand design. The "worst" is yet to come! - Tikbalang Incorporated, 2006

the Song of Sherill

"In the tower lies Kazaa,
Where all knowledge and wisdom rests.
A guardian brave shunned by Hera
Held Sherill who holds sophia..."
The slayer utters the words like some mystic spell. And in a way, it was. He almost misses his demon-days encounter and swears willing to trade the near death moments for this other madness.
Six months, six days and six hours he had spent in the "Realm of the Fallen" and nowhere is he near now to the "Castillo de Maestro".The Talisman of Roth could rot there for all his care but the vision of Sherill had so enthralled her. He's like an addict now unable to turn back....
Like a moth drawn to the fire of imminent death, retreating has never been an option to begin with. And though the seeds of doubt throbs in his heart with a beat all its own, the allure of Sherill permits no such encroachment.
The Talisman would draw him to the guardian. That much he knows to be true. But with each passing time, the desert grows. And the bones and skulls along the way won't take him to the castle even if they knew.
He kept walking anyhow, which is more like a limp or a drag now. Death could overtake him anytime soon and he feels it to be most welcome. But the damned knows no heaven and is not entitled to have one.
From a distance a landmark all to familiar came to view.
Pain has just begun.

The Dilemma of Roth

Cogito ergo sum...I think therefore I am!
How do you fight the enemy from within? And if by chance you'd ever find out, then how would you win?As the devil sings the song you'd long shut out within your mind, Old demons rise where they lay buried. The beast taps the "forbidden power" long trapped within the dark recess of your mind.
"I think therefore I am!" You muster the words hoping to gain control.
Your god did say "I am who I say I am". Does the fact of your claim not make you a god too? The devil puts the words into your mouth.
"Close. But not quite!" You retaliate.
You know full well that you have to get the devil out of your head or you'll loose it all. When the last flicker of hope dies, the darkness - all consuming - would become you.
How do you get the devil off your head?
Cogito ergo sum. I think therefore I am!

Aswang: A glimpse of things to come

"You don't want to mess with the Aswang", Bathsheeba spoke aloud. It was so uncharacteristic of her...
"That thing is the ultimate perversion".Now she really blew her top. I couldn't believe aswang could inspire such fear even to it's kind. After all, Batsheeba is not your typical girl-next-door. (She's a demon too for cryin out loud!)
"How, pray tell, could you have such high regard for such a lowly beast?" I said half-mockingly.
"This is not one of those things you ought to take lightly". Batsheeba uttered still unappeased. "Take your tea and I'll show you".Tea is the potion Batsheeba makes to access the oracle.
Some Slayer I turned out to be, relying on a demon to point the way to me. It's hopeless - I mean, I am!
I swallowed the concoction along with my pride. It was sweet as sin and just as bitter.
She undressed right away to perform the required ritual. We had sex once more for her to enlighten me...And I saw the vision during climax - like some flashback from a B movie.Lying wasted in her bed, reality hit me hard.
I'm f_cked!

Diwata

Bathsheeba looked at me with Medusa's eyes. And I, falling under a spell, kissed like Judas. We made love like it was war. We gave it all like there was no tomorrow - for indeed, there was none...
As with guilt arising from every consumated lust, the gift of bliss was entwined with postcoital curse. Heaven left a bitter after taste.
"There is no 'One Heaven' and happiness is always relative", she whispered knowingly.I need not be told the painful truth.
"And so we moved in hopeless pursuit. We dream and build, then dream anew - heaven always changing with us."
Bedroom talk with pregnant mind...same unsettling effects with hangover from too much wine...and whine!
I breathed a sigh and she asked why. Then I was Peter who denied three times...
There seems to be a lesson to be learned here. Unfortunately, they're lost on the crumpled sheets...
Bathsheeba felt betrayed...she flew out of the window.

Maligno

Granite-like fist hits the unsuspecting victim which happens to be you. And the earth adored you so much that it heaves and breathes where you have fallen. The ground eventually swallowed you whole.
When the body hurts more than the pride, it only meant reason dawned too late. And the truth being painfully made clear, regret indeed comes after the fact...
Heroes die alone because nobody precedes them. And when and where they fall, nobody follows...
One universal truth after another - enlightenment comes. Death is truly near.
"Not with one blow", you told yourself now. Pride sustains where all else fails. Your body trembles as you prop yourself up."Time for some magic beans now!". Not that you have some.
Again, pride lifted you up....
You drew the Anito's dagger and wrote on the ground the ancient name... The hidden symbol of your bloodline.
Time stood still for what seemed to be an eternity. Even that might not have been enough for you to recover. You took it anyhow.
The Maligno stared... Amused...
A storm is brewing...
You took a deep breath. You opened your mouth and lo! A tempest was released - wind howling and swirling like hell...
The maligno was unmoved. He started to ran in your direction andthe earth shook...
Now the gods will battle.
